The smallest items, in terms of volume, are the HexBoltNut creation. It's actually two objects in a single file and is an excellent demonstration of the Cube's precision.
Among the largest creations is the Toy train. There are a lot more impressive creations that don't eat up quite so much material. The ShoeMacedonia_Large, for instance, is about one half the volume of the train.
We will be going through this list in volume order, starting with the smallest volume and ending with the Tower of Hanoi game set, which actually requires 7 creation files to complete for total volume of 81.981.18 cubic millimeters.

Hi Tom,
ReplyDeleteIf you take the cartridge out of the machine before the material is finished I assume you can put that back. Can the machine find out how much material is left on the cartridge if the cartridge was removed and than reinserted?
Yes, on both counts.
ReplyDeleteI've taken the cartridge out for travel and put it back in with no problems at all.
And, apparently, that does not affect the ability of the cartridge to be able to report how much filament is left vs. how much a selected item will require. Last night, I asked it to print an item with a volume of over 250,000 cubic millimeters plus support and it told me I didn't have enough to complete it.
Pretty nifty! :)
Thank you Tom, this si great feature for a small baby.
ReplyDeleteHow difficult is to remove support in the inner areas?
ReplyDeleteI have printed one item that needed support. It's amazing what does NOT need support with this printer.
DeleteThe support on the Cube are far different than any I had seen before. And, this makes it far easier to remove. Rather than being long horizontal ribbons, most are like sipping straws with a pointed end where it attached to the piece. This really makes the support MUCH easier to remove. However, this does not mean that they come off so cleanly that it's OK to use support for everything. There are still tiny pieces that must be clipped off, etc. in some places. The big support comes off very easily in the inner areas. But, it can require tools to reach in and smooth out the tiny bits left here and there.
That's just the nature of 3D printing. But, in this case, the supports seem refined and more intelligently designed for easier removal.
