Firmware & Cubify Client Updates Noticeably Improve Print

Latest firmware at the time of this writing is V2.08.

The combination of 2nd Gen Cube's firmware update V2.08 and the latest Cubify Client update offer what appears to me to be remarkably improved print quality.

While I do not know all the improvements that have been implemented, I do believe that I see much smoother curved surfaces.  There are other LCD user interface changes as well.

I STRONGLY suggest that all 2nd Gen Cube users take the time to apply both updates.

It is my understanding that CubeX owners will benefit by the most recent updates for the CubeX firmware and Client software.  I don't have a CubeX, so I can't verify that in person.  But, if the improvements are as nice as those I'm seeing on the Cube, then it's worth checking it out.

Kudos to 3D Systems for keeping on top of improvements as well as they have.  The 2nd Gen Cube that I have today is performing even better than when it was taken out of the box and that is a testament to 3D System's strong commitment to it's owner base.

While I'm praising 3D Systems, let me also give them credit for the improvements in the readability of the LCD screen itself.  I have 2 2nd Gen Cubes and the most recent one is much easier to see in bright light situations.  It's nice to see that 3D Systems is also listening to buyers and willing to make incremental hardware changes within the model line from time to time.  Nice.

  2. When you run the Cubify Client to create a Cube file, the software checks to see if an update exists for both the firmware and the client software. When you use the Cubify Client with the USB cable connected and the firmware loader active, it will automatically list the updates that were downloaded.

  3. Firmware update via USB is broken- win7 says device not recognized. So far nothing seems to work on this thing... Cubify does not seem to provide firmware images to customers, so what now???

    1. Hi nealsotn,

I just updated 4 Cubes with no problem. I admit the directions could be more clear. Make sure you REMOVE the USB Flash drive first. I would be more than willing to help you if you get in touch with me using the email in the right pane of the blog.

  5. We purchased a factory new cubex printer that was made in 2013. My son and I set it up and seems to be ok, but we can't get the USB port to read any files. The screen says 0 files.

We have done everything I can think of, FAT32 formatting, loaded folder in flash drive to put files in. Don't know what else to try.... Help!

    1. Do you still have this problem. Once you get your Cubex running check out KISSlicer and CubeitMod Mod it is a better software than cubist invent and you can use bulk filament by using that software. Check out a toturial on KISSlicer on YouTube.

  6. I just need to confirm that the printer is a CubeX, which is huge) or a 2nd Gen Cube also manufactured around that time.

Just in case this is the issue... you cannot print .STL files directly to either printer. You must first convert the .STL using the Client software to convert it to the proper file format for either of these printers.

Let me know if this or if you need the download link to pick up the client install file.

  7. What does it cost per hour to print with the CubeX printers? How much amperage do they draw per hour? Hope someone knows this. Thanks Bruce Newell

    1. I will try to check when I go into the lab this afternoon. But, it's 15amps or less. (I say this because it does not have a special 20amp plug.)

  9. I recently snagged one of the Cube gen 2s that was have collecting dust at my office. It still prints great, but i am having what i think is an autoscaling issue (1 of 10 files for a build). I am running Cube Software 2.0.7 from the thumbdrive as 2.0.2 is available from https://www.3dsystems.com/shop/support/cube2/downloads.

Is there a later version available? Or should I switch to a 3rd party software for converting to a print file? Thanks
