1.3mm Hex Driver Source

1.3mm might be very prevalent in the metric world; but, can be hard to come by in the United States.

So, I have made an effort to make it as easy as possible for you to locate and buy a 1.3mm Hex Driver.

I wa able to find one at Hobby Hanger in Chantilly, VA.  While they do not sell online, you can call them to purchase the MIP9013 that I talk about here.

Perhaps the easiest way to order the 1.3mm driver is to go straight to the source.

Moore's Ideal Products (MIP), located in Covina, California, is a company serving the hobby market.  They make a high quality 1.3mm hex driver (Model #9013) that can be purchased in hobby stores or on their website.  The cost is $15.00.  Here is the product page MIP9013.

MIP tools have the extra benefit of being color coded. I have tested this driver on my own cube3 and it works very well. At first glance, it might seem a bit expensive for a single application.  But, it's a lot less hassle to fix the Cube in the field than other options.

Besides, getting to know the MIP site has other benefits.

It was not only great to find a good source for a very rare tool; but, it promises to be a great source for accessories that we can use to enhance our own 3D printing projects.  Most of the tools and accessories I have found most useful, have come from a hobby shop or a hobby site.  And, if the hex wrench I purchased is any barometer, they deliver first class product.  Now that I've seen all they have to offer, I'm thinking of using some of the gear, clutch or differential parts in one of our immersion classes.  Sounds like fun!  :)

UPDATE - Harbor Freight Driver Set

Eric Albert alerted me to a set of drivers from Harbor Freight that includes a 1.3 hex bit.  The price is $6.99.

This is equally good news as Harbor Freight has many local stores.

  1. Thanks, Tom, i have ordered one by your previous link, cost me $18 (include shipping fee). I failed to find one in my company's lab (we have tons of tools except that 1.3mm one). hope Cubify can provide one for future shipment.
i also have that nozzle issue, but never saw any clog issues, even if the surface not so even or had somehow machine mark and a little bit dirty (2 color printing), but it still work smoothly. i think it will be better after height adjustment.

  2. Wow, Xiao Li!

That is great to hear. Cube 3 printers being made now do not have the issue and are locked into place permanently.

It is wonderful to hear that you have not had the clogging issue and can enjoy the new Cube3. Hopefully, we won't have too long to wait for the new filament/cartridge and can join in on the fun!

It was great to hear from you. :).

  3. Tom, thanks for all of the great info on the cube3. You are one of the only users out there that is providing feedback on it. Has anyone mentioned their shipping times? The website says 5 days. However I emailed customer service and they said 5 to 6 weeks. I haven't ordered one yet but am seriously thinking about it.

    1. About ordering now...

I wish that I could say, "Yes!" to ordering right now. But, until we are sure that the clogging issues are solved, I can't, in good conscience, do so. But, I will say this. I would not order something else for at least two weeks. That is because I am confident that new filament and/or cartridge update is going to make this the finest printer available for consumers and educators.
I want you to buy one because I believe in the Cube3. I just want you to buy it at the right time. :)

  4. Thank you Douglas. :)

This is just a guess; but...

I think the differences you are seeing has to do with the expected delivery of the new formula filament. The web site would reflect when they could ship based on volume and support is probably factoring in the extra hold time waiting for the new filament. Waiting a bit is good thing in this xase. :)

    2. Hi,

I haven't received my extra filament. But I have the tracking number of the replacement filament, because my first two cartridges were blocked . I hope to receive them this week or early next week.

      Regards,
